Quick Guide To Tignes Val Claret
Tignes Val Claret serves as the main resort in the Tignes area, it holds most of the nightlife, pubs, bard and a good range of restaurants. The accommodation on offer up here is good, with places like Club Med and UCPA as well ass some swish hotels (Maison Bouvier) and a good range of affordable accommodation with self catered apartments on offer too.
As we have already highlight, the access to the ski domain Espace Killy, or as its now know as Tignes Vla D’Isere, is brilliant. You have 5 lifts to choose from up here, Tuffs (which links you over to Val D’Isere), Les Lanches, Bollin, Fresse and Tichot plus the Grand Motte funicular train.
The resort sits on 2 levels, accessible by lifts up and down. The upper part of the resort is where most of the restaurants and bars are and the bottom has the ski rental shops, parking and the funicular train.
Skiing in Tignes runs from September to May with a re-opening in the mornings in July for summer skiing, always snow dependant, and it can be a little slushy but hey, it is July.
In terms of places to eat, Tummy Restaurant is a firm favourite for amazing burgers, pizzas and waffles. If you want something cheesier look no further than Le Gratalu, furnished with sheepskins in a traditional chalet style you’ll find plenty of raclette options as well as cheese and meat fondues. For après ski this is the area for you, with the most bars and clubs, the Couloir Bar offers live music and DJ’s, or Grizzlys bar for cocktails or vin Chaud.
For those needing lessons, you have a wide choice of options for ski lessons in Val Claret, Evolution 2, Free Flow Ski and the ESF all have offices up here and with the terrain nudging beginner onto more intermediate pistes it would certainly be recommended.
Tignes Val Claret is a great resort in Summer and Winter with mountain biking being popular and lots of hiking and trial routes, there’s also an incredible sports centre at Tignes Le Lac as well as the lake itself for swimming and other water based activities.
Overall if you are looking for the hustle and bustle, Tignes Val Claret would be the best resort for you, serving as the main hub for both skiing and nightlife. But there are plenty of other choices on offer such as Les breviere, if you want a resort that looks more traditional and quaint, as well as Les Boisses (1800) Le Lac and Lavacet.
