Quick Guide to Les Gets
The Les Gets ski area is part of the famous Portes du Soliel. This is one of the most vast ski areas in the Europe with 650km of skiable terrain. The runs are varied and quickly accessible with the three main lifts in walking distance of the town centre.
The Perriers lift at the bottom end of the resort is a popular choice to reach the first set of slopes, as well as the Chavannes chair, a six-man chair lift taking riders up to 1,600 meters and a great point to explore the rest of the area. You can also take the telecabin/bubble up to the same point which proves popular for those wanting to meet friends and family for lunch on the plateau up there.
The Portes du Soliel Ski pass gives you access to the Swiss and French parts of the area, although you’ll need to ski over to Morzine and take another bubble to Avoriaz to get over to the Swiss side. There are plans to build a new connection to make this trip easier and faster for visitors although it’s a few years off being completed! Many will simply take a bus over to Morzine or to Ardent, the large cable car that takes you to the Lindert bowl and giving quick access to Chatel and Les Crosets. This year there is also a new chair in the Linderet bowl that will give skiers quikcer access to the Swiss side, set to take pressure of the Mossets chair lift.
Our insider tip would be to try out Mont Chery in Les Gtes, the hidden gem of the resort offers an escape from the busier pistes of Les Gets, simply cross through the town to take the Mont Chery telecabine. Although the lifts are slightly more dated there are some fantastic rolling reds, blacks and blues plus a mini park where local often put on rail jams with the music pumping out. You'll also be spoilt for choice with two great mountain restaurants on this side- the 'La Grande Ourse' and 'Le Chanterelle' both great options.
The night life in Les Gets, although a little more family orientated that its counterpart Morzine, still offers a great Apres ski scene with Hotel Bellevue offering an 'on the snow' bar at the bottom of the piste that is often filled with live DJ's and sledging under the influence. Locals favourites of Bar Bush and the Boomerang also offer a good night with drinks offers and delicious menu's.
The ski resort of Les Gets opens its pistes on the 14th of December 2019 but keep your eyes peeled as some weekends prior to this could be open depending on the snow fall. Closure will be on the 12th of April 2020, again snow permitting.
