Annecy Lake

Quick Guide To Annecy

As the capital of the Haute Savoie, Annecy still feels like a mountain town. Famous for the scenic lake, whilst the photos do it no justice to the real thing, thousands of tourists travel to Annecy every year to see for themselves the incredible lake and surrounding landscape. A feast for the eyes, the water is crystal clear, clean, and blue green in colour, the water in Annecy is almost tropical.

The medieval town is often dubbed the ‘Venice of the Alps’ with meandering rivers taking route through the town itself. Cameras at the ready, there are some fantastic photo opportunities where lake and mountain meet, as well as the old town and its architecture with colourful houses and pointy roofs.

Popular to visit are often the The Palais de L'ile which was a prison back in the 12th century, or the Chateau d'Annecy, both equally impressive and easily reachable on foot from the town.

With plenty of events in Summer and Winter there is plenty to see and do whilst staying in Annecy, and onward travel is also made easy, with quick access to other mountains resorts such as Chamonix and Morzine.

To get a great view of the lake and its scale, there is a 42km cycle path that runs almost the entire the edge of the lake that was once an old railway line. Whilst there are some up and downs it can be completed in a day at a leisurely pace with plenty of picture perfect stops on route. There are also plenty of bike hire shops such as Annecy Location Velo, who also rent other sports gear such as  kayaks and the ever more increasingly popular Stand Up Paddle Boarding.

For a quieter spot away from the initial bustle of the town, head up to Sévrier, just a few minutes from the centre of Annecy possible by local bus, or on foot. The Stand Up Annecy team have a large range of boards and the spot is second to none with other restaurants located on the water with jettys and a small beach.

Paragliding in Annecy is also very popular, with most flights taking off from the Col De la Forclaz, you will often find the sky littered with Paragliders making the most of the stunning views on decent.

In August Annecy throws a party called Fete du Lac, with an array of live music and events all topped of with one massive firework display.

And with other sporting events such as the AlpsMan Extreme Triathlon (9th and 10th of June) and the Etape Du Tour starting here (8th of July onwards) visitors from all over the world frequent this lake-side town.

Our service caters for both locals and commuters travelling between Annecy and Geneva and for holiday makers and tourists arriving into Geneva airport and wanting to visit Annecy. With our low cost shuttle bus leaving Annecy and Geneva Airport daily we have something that suits all travel needs.
